Dr. Carl Ryan, Optometrist

Dr. Carl Ryan is a native of Montana. He graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana with a B. A. in Biology in 1970 and received his doctorate degree in Optometry from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon in 1974.

Dr. Ryan practiced optometry for 2 years while serving in the U.S. Navy and then in private practice in Laurel, Montana for 12 years. In 1988 he moved to Bend, Oregon and has been in his present location since 1995.

He has been a member of the American Optometric Association for over 34 years. He currently is a member of the Central Oregon Optometric Physicians Society and was president of that group for 7 years. He was the chairman of the Central Oregon Optometric Winter Seminar from 1989 to 1995.

In college, Dr. Ryan was editor of the yearbook for 2 years. He served on the Student Senate and was all conference shortstop on the baseball team. In his adult life he has served on various committees and organizations including being Rotary Club president. He is sports minded and in particular enjoys a round of golf with his friends.

Dr. Ryan has been married to Susan since 1973 and together they are proud of their two grown children, Leanne and Geoff. Sue currently works part time at the office. She is very artistic and is responsible for the unique way the optometric office is decorated each season. Leanne is currently an attorney and has an office in downtown Bend. Geoff has his own film producing company in New York City.
